5 Tips to Be a Happy Mom

Are you a happy mom? Seriously, think about it for a second. Many moms feel like their only purpose in the household is that of a maid. In her study, Sociologist Caitlyn Collins states: Across the countries where I conducted interviews, one desire remained constant among mothers. Women wanted to feel that they were able to combine paid employment and child-rearing in a way that seemed equitable and didn’t disadvantage them at home or at work.

This is no simple task. You are trying to maintain a full-time job without neglecting your role as a mom. I go through this, and let me tell you that it is stressful. It is easy to feel underestimated, and you begin to drown in negative thoughts. You begin doubting your ability to successfully manage a job and household work.

This is where you need to STOP and shake all that negativity away.

There are many women going through the same or similar difficulties that you are going through. They find their way out and so can you. It is possible to have a happy, balanced life. I have come up with 5 tips that will help you begin your journey to a happy and fulfilled life.

5 Tips from a Happy Mom

  • Be thankful– Expressing gratitude plays an important role in our mood. If we can have a positive mindset, we are halfway to being happy. Every day write or think about (at least) three things you are grateful for. Even in these times of isolation, we have things to be thankful for. Use sticky notes to write down what you are thankful for!
  • Take time for self-care– It is important to focus on your family, but you should know that, if you do not take care of yourself, you will not be able to take proper care of your family. Find time each day to do something you love. Watch a movie, read a book, take a long and uninterrupted shower/bath, or simply sit down and enjoy a cup of tea/coffee. Whatever it is, make sure you are taking time to disconnect from your daily routine and refuel yourself. Use facial masks!
  • Be organized– When you are having a busy day, the last thing you want is to forget an important appointment or to find out you forgot to pay a bill on its due date. Once a week, take time to organize your schedule. This will reduce stress and you will be in a better mood. This has helped me and I am sure it will help you too. Use a planner!
  • Ask for help– Sometimes, things pile up and you may feel like you just can’t anymore. Ask for help! It is okay to recognize that you can not do everything. Also important, learn to say no. Your sanity is first, if you can’t do something, you can’t. Ask a family member or a friend who understands you for help.
  • Have fun- Relax! Don’t take life so seriously. Find time to play with your family. Don’t go around picking up after everybody to keep a 100% clean and organized home.

I decided to write about this topic because it is something I need to learn. Sometimes I get caught up in life’s routine and I forget the truly important things in my life. I hope that with these tips, you find new ways to enjoy your family.

Sincerely,
