7 Genius ways to save thousands in 2021

Albert Einstein said: “Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow”.

Last year was without any doubt a challenging one. Have you heard that saying that goes something like ‘the same boiling water that softens the potato is the same water that hardens the egg’? I think 2020 did just that to a lot of people. Some took advantage of the isolation, and learned a new hobby, or maybe took back an old hobby they had set aside. Others had a hard time coping during this pandemic, and are just now starting to get back up on their feet (ps. you got this!).

Now that the pandemic is slowly coming to an end and States loose some restrictions, people are going out to malls, and restaurants, and little by little money is being wasted. Instead of wasting thousands of dollars on unnecessary things, I want you to save thousands in this year 2021.

One important concept I learned in 2020 is that in order to live comfortably and have financial freedom tomorrow, one needs to cut the unnecessary expenses today.

What are some real ways we can save money this year? What things can/should I give up? How can I live below my means without sacrificing so much? Those are just some of the questions I asked myself last December while thinking about the new year, and we will answer them in this post.

Why do you want to save thousands?

Many people don’t believe in saving money. Maybe you prefer to invest, or put your money to work for you. There is nothing wrong with that, but if your plan is to save thousands to be able to afford something you’ve always wanted, or maybe to increase your savings account, then you will want to save money by cutting unnecessary expenses.

It’s important to set financial goals for yourself. If you know what you want, then it’ll be easier to create a plan to reach those goals.

Like I mentioned, part of your plan will most likely include cutting expenses you no longer need.

make your own coffee

You knew it was coming, so might as well get it over with. Let’s put some real numbers in this equation. If you buy coffee 3 times per week and each cup of coffee you buy is $3, you will SPEND $468 per year! Now think of it this way, every time you don’t stop to buy coffee, they pay you $3. That means in a year, you can SAVE $468!

I currently have this Keurig and I absolutely love it! I love the color, and the convenience this machine brings to my house. The coffee that I buy costs $35 for this box and it comes with 84 k-cups that lasts me about 2 months. Maybe that is an option for you. There are also reusable k-cups that are very cheap and you can use your favorite coffee with.

at-home manicures and pedicures

I used to spend around $1,200 per year on salon manicures. This is money that could have been used for something more lasting than nails.

An option for an at home manicure can be investing in a UV lamp and a few neutral gel nail polish colors and you can always have a salon-looking manicure for a fraction of the price.

If you don’t want to buy equipment but like to have your nails looking well-groomed, you can use a quick cuticle remover gel, a nail file, and nail buffer.

cook more at home

The average American household spends around $3,000 per year eating out. Imagine all the money you could put to better use if you ate more home cooked meals! Eating home-cooked meals can help you save money, improve your budget, and allows you to spend quality time with your family. An option to begin eating more at home is planning ahead. You can create simple meal plans like this FREE one below one to get started. Try different recipes to change the routine. cut the cable

One time we decided to get cable service in our house. The company had a good deal, and we wanted to try the service. Long story short, they had “hidden” charges that were not included in the promotion package review and they ended up charging twice the amount we had agreed on. Needless to say, we cut the service immediately. With options like Netflix, Hulu, apple tv, etc., you can save hundreds of dollars per month on tv services.

no-equipment workouts

Working out became a part of my daily routine in 2020. I enjoyed doing different workouts using workout apps, youtube, or my own workout routines. Because I was working out on a daily basis, I went online and looked at different workout equipments. I wanted an elliptical, a rowing machine, a weight rack, etc. Then I noticed that I could pretty much modify my favorite workouts to be able to perform them at home and with no special equipment. I have a few dumbbells, a kettlebell (15lb) and a bar (25lb), and that gets the job done. I also love doing body-weight exercises!

Don’t use the excuse of not having workout equipment to justify why you don’t work out. Unless you have specific body goals (bikini competition, etc.), you can work out from home with no equipment and for free. Get creative and commit to a healthier 2021!

use cloth napkins

Kids are messy. This means, you need napkins accessible at every moment. This is the reason many opt to buy disposable napkins. However, many do not realize that by using reusable napkins, you can save tons of money.

make your own household cleaners

Buying disinfecting wipes, bathroom cleaners, kitchen cleaners, etc. can be very costly. That is why many have decided to learn how to make their own household cleaners. This will benefit you financially and health wise. It is no secret that many store-bought cleaners have ingredients that can affect our health many ways. This blog is an example of how to DIY different household cleaners.

I hope that with these money-saving tips, you can begin your journey to have some sort of financial freedom. Thank you for taking your time to read this post. Comment: what are some money-saving techniques you currently use?
